I’m a three-foot dick. I’m covered in dust.”
Richard Hendriks (Thomas Middleditch)

It’s the new American dream – create something menial but tech-worthy, and then band a group of people together to nurture it and sell it all off for a gazillion dollars. And do it all before someone pilfers your idea and out-markets you. Sound familiar? It’s like a metaphor of life right now – part comedy and part tragedy.

This show equally annoyed me as much as it entertained me, which I think is kind of the point. At least, I hope that is what Mike Judge, John Altschuler, and Dave Krinsky were striving for when they created this show and got it optioned. It’s filled with a cast of a young, entitled and socially broken individuals all trying to make their fortunes by the age of 30. Watching the acting talent work within the confines of these characters bears way more fruit than I’d ever have thought possible on Silicon Valley.

Amidst the myriad of financial ups and downs, the character fast talking, the lawsuits around copyright infringement and the egos so large the show must be filmed utilizing shorter focused lenses to simply fit them all onto the screen during multiple character scenes; there does indeed lie a coherent and deftly crafted series. It’s like the show you want to hate but kind of love.

Presented on Blu-ray courtesy of HBO Entertainment with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1 ratio, and boasting a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix – Silicon Valley: The Complete Second Season looks and sounds great. The show is primarily shot as interiors in and around the TechCrunch Disrupt offices, with both the visuals and sound being as sharp as they can be given the tapestry of the show.

Silicon Valley: The Complete Second Season offers up six audio commentaries over episodes 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 features an assortment of the creators and actors. There are approximately 10 minutes of deleted scenes to enjoy along with a culling of interviews entitled Reality Bytes: The Art and Science Behind Silicon Valley that runs for a mere three minutes. Silicon Valley Season 3 premiers on Sunday April 24th.
