City and Colour - Dallas Green, perhaps better known as the man who writes, records, and performs under the moniker of City and Colour, is undeniably one of the biggest groundswell stories in Canadian music. With 3 JUNOs under his belt -- including two SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR awards (2009, 2012), and 3 Platinum-selling albums. City and Colour’s most current LP Little Hell debuted at #1 on the Top 200 SoundScan Chart in Canada, #2 in Australia, and #28 in the U.S. City and Colour’s last Canadian tour sold out in minutes, and came on the heels of an international run with sold-out shows across the US, UK and Europe. After his appearance at SXSW, City and Colour heads to the U.S. where Green was invited by P!NK to open 3 arena dates on her upcoming U.S. tour, before heading to perform as direct support for Biffy Clyro’s extensive UK run. A new record is expected this year. www.cityandcolour.ca
Metric – With 500,000 records sold, Metric released their fifth studio record, Synthetica, to rave reviews in 2012. Sonically futuristic yet organic, this album sounds like the culmination of all the music the band has made in their 10 years together. First single “Youth Without Youth” examines the fraying social state with a bristling energy and a driving beat. “Breathing Underwater” and “Speed the Collapse” both deliver on the classic METRIC chorus of soaring melancholy, while the lyrics for “Lost Kitten” and “Clone” call out some bad behavior and the consequences. Hard rocking title track “Synthetica” offers an epic conclusion to suspenseful album opener “Artificial Noctune.” www.ilovemetric.com
Jimmy Eat World – Jimmy Eat World has released seven studio albums since 1994. Their breakthrough happened in 2001 with the release of the album Bleed American and their single, The Middle. The RIAA certified Bleed American platinum. The band’s sixth album, Chase This Light (2007) became the group’s highest charting album, peaking at number five on the Billboard 200. Jimmy Eat World released Invented in September of 2010 on Interscope Records. A new record is expected this year. www.jimmyeatworld.com
Serena Ryder - Already the recipient of three JUNO Awards and three GOLD Albums, Serena Ryder recently unveiled her most personal and ambitious album yet. The result is HARMONY – robust, passionate, optimistic, adventurous, haunting and addictive - which came out on November 13, 2012 on Serenader Source/Universal Music Canada. “HARMONY is my journey...my past, my present, my future and all the ugly and beautiful things that I've had the pleasure of experiencing so far in my short life here,” shares Serena. “I've chosen with this record to experiment more freely with the different musical parts of me that make up the whole.” www.serenaryder.com
Yukon Blonde - Favourites of the festival scene this year, Yukon Blonde, released Tiger Talk in 2012, gaining more and more fans with songs like Stairway and My Girl. The band has toured extensively in North America, making stops at several festivals including SXSW and NXNE. Yukon Blonde was named one of the “10 Canadian bands destined to break in 2010” by the CBC. www.yukonblonde.com
